Tiada tokoh setara Onn Hafiz di Johor, PKR perlu muhasabah, kata Kamil

The PKR party needs self-criticism, according to its Deputy Youth Leader Kamil Munim, who stated that the party must acknowledge it has yet to produce a leader capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with Johor's Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He emphasized this point during a discussion at the PKR Youth Congress 2026 at the Multi-purpose International Trade Centre (MITC) in Melaka.

Onn Hafiz's resounding victory in Johor highlights the need for such self-reflection, as the party has failed to generate a comparable figure in Johor. In the recent PRN Johor, BN secured 48 out of 56 parliamentary seats, while the opposition party (PH) only managed eight. This failure necessitates a thorough evaluation of whether PKR has successfully positioned itself with a leader who can offer an alternative to the existing leadership.

Kamil also stressed the importance of PKR understanding current political developments and addressing issues that are close to the people's hearts, such as the claim by a PAS leader (Mohd Nor Hamzah) that a Muslim voter must support PAS to remove the contentious premises of gambling from national politics. He referred to a statement made by PAS Penerangan Dewan Ulama Head Mohd Nor Hamzah, which was announced following the Federal Court's decision on Wednesday overturning a Kedah High Court ruling that had previously barred the issuance and renewal of betting permits in the state.

The Supreme Court's ruling confirmed that decisions on the issuance of betting permits fall under the purview of federal government authorities, not state governments.
