Three fight for one spot as vocational college applications surge past 67,000

TAIPING, Malaysia — Applications for admission to Ministry of Education vocational colleges have surged past 67,000 nationwide, according to Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh. As of today, there are 67,045 applications for the 19,567 available spots. The figure is anticipated to surpass 68,000 when applications close tonight.

Wong highlighted the strong interest in skills-based education, which is evident in the nearly 100 percent employability rate of KV graduates. He attributed the success to the efforts of the Madani Government and MOE in strengthening the TVET sector, ultimately boosting graduate employability. The high employability rate of 99.95 percent in 2023, coupled with regular rates of 98 to 99 percent, demonstrates the vital role of collaboration between MOE and industry players in ensuring that KV courses and skills align with job market requirements.
