Three fight for one spot as vocational college applications surge past 67,000

TAIPING, Malaysia - As of August 14, the Ministry of Education's vocational colleges (KV) have received 67,045 applications nationwide, exceeding the capacity of 19,567 places. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh anticipates the number to surpass 68,000 once applications close tonight. This surge in applications signifies a strong interest in skills-based education, which also contributes to the nearly 100% employability rate among KV graduates.

Wong attributes the success to the Madani Government and MOE's efforts to strengthen the TVET sector, consequently improving graduate employability. The deputy minister highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today between Toyo Tyre Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). Wong emphasized the high employability rate of 99.95% recorded among KV graduates in 2023, noting that collaboration with industry players ensures the fields offered and skills acquired align with job market requirements.
