'Terrorists will face consequences': Prez Murmu addresses nation on I-Day eve

President Droupadi Murmu delivered a national address on the eve of India's 80th Independence Day, praising the nation's growth and citizens' contributions to nation-building. She emphasized her commitment to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047 through inclusive development, drawing inspiration from India's rich heritage and the ideals of the freedom struggle.

Operation Sindoor showcased the Indian Armed Forces' precision strikes against terror networks. Murmu highlighted that people from diverse ideological backgrounds united during the Swadeshi Movement and the freedom struggle, with Mahatma Gandhi leading the masses in the song Vande Mataram. She mentioned the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with a country harboring terrorism as a decisive step for national interests, particularly for farmers.

Murmu stressed that terrorists and their supporters would face consequences regardless of where they hide. She also acknowledged the achievement of making India Naxal-free and the integration of over 550 princely states into independent India under Sardar Patel's leadership. Over 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty in the past decade through inclusive development initiatives, ensuring food security for more than 80 crore beneficiaries.

India's digital infrastructure, the world's largest and most advanced, has transformed daily life, with digital payments even at small shops in villages. The nation's citizens and government have demonstrated a digital revolution to the global community.
