PKR lacks leader to match Onn Hafiz in Johor, says youth chief

PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim has stated that the party must acknowledge the current political landscape and the concerns of the public. He highlighted the need for PKR to produce a leader comparable to Johor's menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. Kamil emphasized that Onn Hafiz's landslide victory in Johor should prompt PKR to reflect on its own shortcomings in the recent polls.

He lamented, "Onn Hafiz won big in Johor. This is the bitter reality that we have to swallow," and added, "We failed to produce a figure and leader who could stand on equal footing with him in the state." The Barisan Nasional (BN) party secured 48 out of the 56 seats in the recent Johor state election, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) only managed eight.

Kamil also underscored the importance of PKR understanding the current political developments and issues that resonate with the public. He cited PAS ulama council information chief Nor Hamzah's recent call for Muslim voters to assist the party in reaching Putrajaya to abolish gambling, following the Federal Court's rejection of the PAS-led Kedah government's attempt to overturn the ruling that barred it from revoking licences for pool betting and lottery operators.
