Local cyber cafe operators in Kenya can breathe a small sigh of relief as they no longer have to record their customers' browsing histories. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has clarified that the new rules, initially expected to take effect on August 14, will not require operators to keep track of users' browsing activities.

Instead, businesses are only required to maintain basic session logs, such as customers' names, identity numbers, and terminal times, for a minimum of three years. This change aims to strike a balance between national security and the constitutional right to privacy, addressing concerns raised by previous provisions that could have eroded customer trust and potentially driven them away from cyber cafes.
