Swiatek breaks title drought with victory over Rybakina in Toronto

Iga Swiatek secured her maiden title of the season by defeating Elena Rybakina in the finals of the National Bank Open in Toronto. The Polish seventh seed took an early lead in the first set, capitalizing on Rybakina's double faults. Swiatek continued her strong performance from the tournament, breaking Rybakina's serve twice in the second set.

Rybakina managed to save one championship point but ultimately fell short, allowing Swiatek to claim her first title since September. At the post-match awards ceremony, Swiatek honored those facing unfair criticism and hate, encouraging them to persevere. The men's draw saw American Ben Shelton retain his title by defeating fellow American Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in Montreal.

Shelton, who failed to drop a set throughout the tournament, credited his performance to the hard work he has put in and his mental toughness. He is now just the fourth man in the century to achieve a consecutive title at the event, following Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
