Russian drones kill a woman and 9-year-old son at home as Ukrainian civilian casualties rise

Russian drone strikes in northern Ukraine resulted in the deaths of a 29-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son on Friday. The victims, who were at home, were among four others wounded by the attack, with the boy's father and grandmother suffering severe burns and requiring hospitalization. The Russian jet-powered drones targeted the region of Sumy, marking a new escalation in the ongoing war.

This came a day after the United Nations reported July as the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since the invasion began over four years ago. Over 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 wounded in July alone, with the U.N. monitoring mission in Kyiv attributing this surge to Russia's intensified bombing campaign.
