Russian drones kill a woman and 9-year-old son at home as Ukrainian civilian casualties rise

Russian drone attacks in northern Ukraine resulted in the tragic loss of a 29-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son, officials reported. This incident occurred on Friday, following the United Nations' revelation that July had been the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since the invasion four years ago. In July alone, at least 437 civilians were killed, and 2,610 wounded, according to the U.N. monitoring mission in Kyiv.

Since Russia's invasion began on February 24, 2022, the U.N. has documented at least 16,874 civilian deaths, including 820 children, and 51,273 injuries, including 3,126 children.

The drone strike in Sumy region also injured four others, including the victim's father and grandmother, who sustained severe burns and were hospitalized. Russian glide bombs targeted areas near the front lines, with Zelenskyy stating that Russia launches around 220 glide bombs daily against settlements close to the front line in eastern and southern Ukraine. President Zelenskyy further revealed that Russia attacked 12 Ukrainian regions overnight, leaving dozens injured.
