RM5.9mil in contraband seized from warehouse used as China goods hub

Yesterday, police in Kuala Lumpur made a significant seizure of RM5.9 million worth of contraband items during a raid on a warehouse in Kampung Sungai Serdang, Kapar. The operation, part of Op Taring Alpha, resulted in the arrest of three men, including a local company director and two Bangladeshi warehouse workers. The warehouse, believed to have been used as a 14-year-old temporary distribution and collection hub for Chinese goods, yielded an impressive haul of 32,200 untaxed cigarettes, worth RM304,612, 149 boxes of liquor, 167,526 boxes of Chinese food products, and Chinese cosmetic and health products, totaling RM3.9 million.

The total value of the seized items was estimated at RM5,901,526. The case is under investigation for possession of untaxed cigarettes and liquor, immigration violations, and employment of illegal foreign workers, with penalties including jail time and substantial fines. The operation involved several government agencies, and since January, 234 raids nationwide have resulted in arrests for smuggling and other offenses, with seizures estimated at RM311 million.
