Reports: Dortmund abandon race to sign Cologne forward El Mala

Borussia Dortmund has reportedly abandoned its pursuit to sign Cologne forward Said El Mala, according to multiple media reports on Friday. The German Bundesliga club has decided to give up signing the player, with Sky TV broadcaster stating as much. Funke media group also quoted Borussia Dortmund sports director Lars Ricken, who stated that "Said El Mala is not a Borussia Dortmund player and won't become one this summer."

The club has held discussions with Cologne officials over recent days, but those talks have been unsuccessful as the Cologne side has rejected the latest offer. The German champions are not intending to submit another offer for the player, as they will not pursue a transfer for El Mala any further, according to Ricken. The player, who is currently contracted until 2030, has reportedly been demanding a fee of €50 million ($57.7 million) for his services.

Earlier offers from Dortmund were reportedly lower, and the club made a final bid this week, totaling approximately €50 million, including bonuses. El Mala experienced a breakthrough season last year, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 34 Bundesliga matches, attracting significant interest from other clubs.
