Red Sox, Royals to Face Off in 2027 Field of Dreams Game

Major League Baseball and Universal Pictures have announced that the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals will compete against each other in the fourth edition of the Field of Dreams Game in 2027. Neither team has participated in the game, which takes place in Dyersville, Iowa, since its creation in 2021. Cullen Maxey, the president of business operations for the Royals, expressed his delight at the opportunity to feature his team in one of baseball's most beloved events and to expand its reach to a global audience.

Maxey added that the Royals' presence in the Midwest, including Dyersville, made this a natural and exciting choice for their fans. Sam Kennedy, president and CEO of the Red Sox, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the event in a location that embodies the essence of baseball. Kennedy noted that baseball's enduring popularity stems from its ability to evolve while preserving its traditions, memories, and shared experiences that make the game so meaningful.

The Field of Dreams Game is based on the 1989 film of the same name, starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, and Ray Liotta. The inaugural game of the tradition was held in 2021, with the Chicago White Sox defeating the New York Yankees 9-8. The following year, the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds faced off, with the Cubs emerging victorious 4-2. In 2026, the Phillies and Twins played to a 7-1 victory in the most recent edition.
