The Premier League's top clubs continue to demonstrate that top-quality midfielders are among the most sought-after assets in the transfer market. Manchester City is reportedly set to spend another £120 million (R2.62 billion) on Argentina international Enzo Fernández, with Chelsea reportedly holding a £120 million (R2.62 billion) valuation for the player.

Manchester City already spent £116 million (R2.54 billion) on England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest earlier in the transfer window, breaking Morgan Rogers' British transfer record. Chelsea's £120 million (R2.62 billion) valuation for Fernández has City on the defensive, as they seek between £60 million (R1.31 billion) and £70 million (R1.53 billion) for the 30-year-old World Cup winner.

Fernández's potential move to City would make him another massive investment in the club's midfield. Notably, Tottenham just spent around £100 million (R2.19 billion) to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, while Newcastle parted ways with Bruno Guimaraes and Aston Villa's Sandro Rogers for a combined £408 million (R8.92 billion) in midfield transfers this summer.
