Tanzid Hasan makes history with Bangladesh’s first Test century in Australia

Bangladesh's Tanzid Hasan Tamim achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Bangladeshi player to score a Test century in Australia, propelling the visitors into a 153-run lead against the hosts. On the second day of the opening Test in Darwin, Bangladesh reached 351-6 at stumps, surpassing Australia's score of 198 on the first day.

The 25-year-old left-hander's century, scored off 197 balls, came from 188 deliveries, featuring eight fours and a six. Tanzid's innings marked Bangladesh's first Test hundred away from home since Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 137 against South Africa in Durban in 2022. This accomplishment makes Tanzid the second Bangladesh player to score a Test century against Australia, the first being Shahriar Nafees who scored 138 against the Australians at Fatullah in 2006.

Bangladesh's captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, also contributed with an attacking 84, keeping up the pressure on the hosts. Despite Tanzid's dismissal, Bangladesh maintained a firm grip on the game, with four wickets remaining at the close of play. Australia, who struggled after being dismissed for 198, now face a significant challenge to turn the tide in their favor.
