President Droupadi Murmu to address nation on eve of 80th Independence Day

This evening, August 14, President Droupadi Murmu will address the Indian nation on the eve of the country's 80th Independence Day. This annual speech is held prior to the primary celebrations at the Red Fort in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag and speaks to the populace on August 15.

Last year, during the 79th Independence Day eve address, President Murmu expressed that the nation was advancing towards self-reliance with great confidence. She cited a GDP growth rate of 6.5 percent in the previous fiscal year, asserting that India retained the status of the world's fastest-growing major economy. The President further praised the completion of the rail link in the Kashmir Valley, deeming it a significant achievement that would enhance trade and tourism.

Murmu also focused on India's progress in self-sufficiency, particularly in defense manufacturing. She highlighted Operation Sindoor as a test case of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in the defense sector. The successful outcome of this initiative indicated that the country was on the right path, with indigenous manufacturing achieving a critical level to cater to many of the nation's security needs, according to President Murmu.
