Arab Parliament condemns Iran’s targeting of UAE tankers

Cairo - The President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, has vehemently condemned Iran's aggressive actions against two UAE oil tankers navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement released on Friday, Al Yamahi emphasized that repeated attacks on commercial vessels, which undermine the security of international maritime routes, pose a significant threat to regional stability and global energy security, and directly contravene international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Stressing that the safety of maritime routes and freedom of navigation should not be subject to political pressures, Al Yamahi warned that ongoing attacks on commercial vessels could jeopardize the safety of global shipping, energy security, and market stability. The repercussions of such actions, he cautioned, would extend far beyond the region.

Al Yamahi reiterated the Arab Parliament's unwavering solidarity with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and affirmed the organization's readiness to support the UAE in defending its security, sovereignty, and interests. He also expressed support for any legitimate measures taken by the UAE to safeguard its security and the safety of its citizens and property.

He reiterated the necessity of adhering to international law, respecting the freedom of maritime navigation, and ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Yamahi urged the international community and the UN Security Council to honor their responsibilities by immediately halting any actions that threaten navigation safety and commercial vessel security, and by preventing practices that could undermine regional stability or endanger global economic and commercial interests.

The Arab Parliament affirmed that safeguarding vital maritime routes is a collective responsibility mandated by international law and grounded in the principles of international peace and security.
