PKR must look in the mirror, not blame voters, says Youth chief

Melaka, 14th August — The chief of the Youth wing of the opposition party PKR, Muhammad Kamil Ahmad Munim, has urged the party to introspect its performance following recent state elections rather than blaming the electorate for its losses. Kamil said while electoral victories should boost confidence, defeats must be used as a chance for the party to evaluate its shortcomings and understand why certain voters continue to oppose it.

He stressed during a policy address at the AMK National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh, "The results of the recent state elections must be viewed with courage. Do not blame the people at all. Do not be angry with voters for not choosing us. 'The people do not owe any party their votes; we are the ones who owe the people an explanation.'"

Kamil further cautioned against narratives that play on fears of Malays and Islam being threatened under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, warning that such discourse could fill the void left by PKR's failure to address public concerns. He urged the party to offer a "politics of confidence" that safeguards Malay interests and Islam's role in a fair, diverse Malaysia.

"We have a duty to provide better answers to these concerns because if we leave that space empty, others will fill it with fear... If we do not provide confidence, others will sell it through suspicion. Therefore, we must offer something greater, namely a politics of confidence," Kamil concluded.
