Nestlé Malaysia revamps recycling drive with fresh push of Project SAVE

KUALA LUMPUR – Nestlé Malaysia (M) Bhd has unveiled Nestlé Kitar, an updated platform for Project SAVE (Segregate, Avoid, Value, Educate), aiming to boost community recycling involvement and aid Malaysia’s shift towards a circular economy. Nestlé Malaysia’s chief executive officer, Juan Aranols, stated that the platform builds upon Project SAVE’s six-year track record of community collaborations and impact.

Malaysia produces approximately 40,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, much of which could be recycled, Aranols noted. Since its inception in 2020, Project SAVE has engaged around 270,000 households across nine cities and reclaimed and recycled 50,000 tonnes of dry mixed recyclables, including 32,000 tonnes of plastics.

Nestlé Kitar reflects the collective effort needed to establish a more effective recycling system. It represents a shared responsibility among industry players, government agencies, local authorities, waste management firms, recyclers, and communities to expand collection services, lessen waste, enhance recycling education, and promote regular household participation.

Nestlé Malaysia emphasized that these partnerships allow recycling services and community engagement initiatives to be customized to local requirements as the programme broadens across Malaysia.

The platform aligns with the company’s broader initiatives to minimize virgin plastic usage, incorporate recycled materials, and design packaging for recyclability.
