Matrimonial site ‘promised’ 100 contacts but gave only 51, Kerala man wins Rs 20,000

A man from Kerala won Rs 20,000 after a matrimonial website failed to deliver 100 promised matchmaking contacts. The Kerala State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ruled that the website was deficient in service, ordering a refund of Rs 15,000 and compensation of Rs 5,000. The man had paid Rs 25,960 for the matchmaking services, expecting 100 contacts.

However, the website only provided 51 contacts, which the court deemed a clear deficiency in service. The company argued that users could access matching profiles without separate provision, but the commission upheld the district commission's decision. The complaint arose after the man's subscription plan expired, and he sought compensation for the missing contacts.

The commission noted that while 51 contacts were provided, the man couldn't find any suitable matches. To avoid similar issues, consumers are advised to verify promises made by matrimonial services and keep proof of their agreements.
