Laufey created a ‘third space’ with her annual fan event, ‘A Very Laufey Day.’ Then it exploded

In 2023, Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey, known for her neoclassical jazz-pop, conceived the idea of a global fan event to celebrate her second album, "Bewitched." The event, dubbed "A Very Laufey Day," aimed to bring her fans out of their homes and immerse them in an itinerary of her ideal day filled with music from "Bewitched." Laufey sought to create "third spaces" for her audience to connect with their communities offline and in person, fostering a sense of belonging and exploration.

Each year, the Grammy-winning artist curates itineraries for various locations around the world, allowing fans to experience "perfect days" in museums, bookstores, cafes, concerts, and other venues. As the event approached its fourth edition, it had grown exponentially, with fans donning Laufey-themed vintage clothing to celebrate the unofficial holiday.

This year, "A Very Laufey Day" expanded to 75 cities across 25 countries, centered on the theme "A Celebration of the Arts." The festivities included performances by symphony orchestras, ballet, jazz, opera, and theater, as well as events hosted by libraries, bookstores, coffee shops, and eateries. Laufey's concert film, "A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl," will be screened at select theaters.

Additionally, she partnered with prominent museums worldwide, such as New York City's Guggenheim, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, London's Tate Modern, Chile's Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, and Seoul's Daelim Museum.

Laufey's primary focus this year was on the arts and culture, aiming to break down barriers between her predominantly Gen Z and Gen A audience and high cultural experiences. By incorporating these venues into the event, she hoped to make such spaces more inviting and less intimidating for younger fans.
