KMRC targets Kenya’s housing finance gap as Affordable Housing Conference set for August 20

NAIROBI, Kenya (Aug 14) - The Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) is set to host the fifth Kenya Affordable Housing Conference from August 20 to 21 at Lake Naivasha Resort in Nakuru County. The conference aims to address both the shortage of affordable homes and the financing barriers that prevent many Kenyans from accessing the formal housing market, according to KMRC CEO and Managing Director Johnstone Oltetia.

The two-day event will gather government officials, lenders, developers, investors, pension funds, SACCOs, and international experts to explore financing models that can expand access to homeownership. The conference's theme, "Scaling the Base: Unlocking Inclusive and Sustainable Housing Solutions," reflects the dual challenges of constructing affordable housing units and enabling Kenyans with informal or irregular incomes to obtain housing finance.

Discussions will cover alternative financing models, sustainable housing practices, technology integration, and the sharing of experiences from other African countries like Japan, India, and South Africa. KMRC hopes the conference will generate practical solutions, partnerships, and insights to accelerate homeownership and deepen financial inclusion in Kenya.
