KIO Data Centers doubles down on Querétaro with a US $1.3B expansion plan

KIO Data Centers plans to invest over US$1.3 billion in Querétaro by 2030 to meet increasing U.S. demand for artificial intelligence and data storage. The QR03 project, a new data center in the El Marqués Industrial Park, is expected to generate more than 8,000 direct and indirect jobs. KIO CEO Octavio Camarena Villalvazo announced the expansion during an event with Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González and Mexico's Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón.

The new infrastructure is part of KIO's growth strategy in a market where data centers are crucial for the digital economy. The company has already spent over US$170 million on phases two and three of QRO2, its second facility in the state, and runs its first data center, QRO1, nearly two decades after its launch. KIO plans to invest over US$200 million in 2026 across Mexico City, Monterrey, Querétaro, and Guatemala to meet regional demand.

Recent projections estimate that data centers in Mexico will see US$20 billion in direct spending and US$64 billion in indirect investment by 2031, with much of the latter spent in Querétaro.
