Kastam rampas 63 kontena pelbagai komoditi hampir RM43 juta

Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM) Malaysia has thwarted attempts to smuggle a variety of goods and commodities after seizing 63 containers valued at RM42.99 million, including duties and taxes, in four separate raids at the Klang Port. The head of JKDM Selangor, Noraidah Ishak, revealed that the largest seizure involved four 40-foot containers carrying 48,780,000 packs of white cigarettes valued at RM37.56 million, including duties and taxes.

Another significant case involved the seizure of 57 containers containing 1,190 square meters of steel and plastic, valued at RM4.96 million, along with RM827,789 in duties and taxes. The head of JKDM Selangor also mentioned that 13 steel containers weighing 351.18 metric tons valued at RM1.79 million and 44 plastic containers weighing 841.55 metric tons valued at RM2.34 million were charged with not having a valid import permit from the Malaysian Industrial Standards and Research Institute (Sirim).

The operation also involved the seizure of 1,578.43 liters of various alcoholic beverages valued at RM409,917, including duties and taxes, hidden among other goods. The fourth seizure involved a container carrying 1,240 units of adult toys disguised as chairs, handbags, drink bottles, and clothing. The seized goods were classified as absolute prohibitions and were attempted to be smuggled from an Asian country before being inspected at the Klang Port.

All cases involving alcohol, adult toys, and steel and plastic were investigated under Section 135(1)(a) and Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967, while the cigarette case was prosecuted under Section 52(1) of the same act. Further investigations are underway to identify the masterminds, intermediaries, and actual owners of all the containers involved before legal action is taken.

The head of JKDM Selangor also urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the anonymous toll-free customs hotline at 1-800-88-8855 or visit the nearest JKDM office while keeping the information provider's identity fully confidential.
