Kastam KLIA rampas rokok, bunga ganja lebih RM6 juta

KLIA airport authorities in Malaysia have apprehended four smuggling cases involving a combined total of RM6.17 million, including 1.53 million packs of white cigarettes and 47.8kg of ganja, in the past month. Aspalila Ag Tuah, the Kastam KLIA regional chief, revealed that two of the cases involved cigarette smuggling at the Free Trade Zone of KLIA, while the other two pertained to ganja, including 47.8kg worth RM3.824 million found in two bags left at the Lost and Found office at Terminal 1's international clearinghouse.

Two bags initially scheduled to be transported from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi on July 14 were abandoned by a passenger. Investigations revealed a waterproof plastic bag likely containing ganja. The airline was contacted to help trace the bag's owner.

Two months prior, Kastam KLIA thwarted two attempts to smuggle 1.53 million packs of white cigarettes, valued at RM1.35 million, following a search of a warehouse in the Free Trade Zone of KLIA on July 29. Customs duties and taxes for the cigarettes amounted to RM290,152. The next day, another 1.12 million packs of cigarettes, valued at RM168,000 with customs and duty totaling RM786,400, were discovered in a warehouse in the same zone. The cargo handlers for both incidents were called to assist in the investigation.
