Jobless single dad claims trial to robbing and injuring mum with baby at Batu Gajah house

IPOH, August 14 — Lee Koon Yew, a 49-year-old unemployed single father, appeared in court on August 14 not guilty to charges of robbing and injuring a woman, Fatin Fazira Ahmad Fauzi, 26, and her two-month-old baby. The assault occurred on August 8 at a house in Taman Batu Gajah Perdana. The offence, under Section 394 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine or whipping if found guilty.

Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and ordered Lee to report to the nearest police station monthly, surrender his passport to the court, and refrain from interfering with witnesses. The case will be mentioned again on September 23. Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Raveena initially proposed bail of RM20,000 with one surety.

She stated that the victim was carrying her baby at the time of the incident and required hospital treatment for her injuries. Lee's lawyer, Dhirren Amaresha, argued for a lower bail amount, citing his client's status as a single father of two and his condition with high blood pressure. On August 8, a 53-second video of a man attempting to flee on a motorcycle following the alleged robbery and assault at the Taman Batu Gajah Perdana house went viral on social media.

Later that day, Batu Gajah District Police Chief ACP Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad announced the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in the crime.
