Jobless single dad claims trial to robbing and injuring mum with baby at Batu Gajah house

IPOH, August 14 — Lee Koon Yew, a 49-year-old unemployed man, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to charges of robbery and causing injury to Fatin Fazira Ahmad Fauzi, a 26-year-old woman. The incident took place at a house in Taman Batu Gajah Perdana on August 8 at 11:40 am. The offence, under Section 394 of the Penal Code, could result in a 20-year prison sentence, a fine, or whipping if found guilty.

Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus set Lee's bail at RM8,000 with one surety, instructing him to report to the nearest police station monthly, surrender his passport to the court, and avoid interfering with witnesses. The court scheduled a mention for September 23. Initially, Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Raveena requested bail of RM20,000 with one surety.

Fatin, who was carrying her two-month-old baby at the time of the incident, suffered injuries that required hospital treatment, explained Raveena. Lee's lawyer, Dhirren Amaresha, requested a lower bail amount, citing his client's status as a single father of two and his condition of high blood pressure. On August 8, a 53-second video of the alleged robbery and assault circulated on social media.

Subsequently, Batu Gajah District Police Chief ACP Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad announced the arrest of a suspect in the case.
