Jared Kushner To Lead US President Trump’s Gaza Peace Push, Visit Israel And Egypt Amid Israeli Opposition To Hamas Disarmament Deal

President Donald Trump's son-in-law and negotiator, Jared Kushner, will embark on a Middle East trip next week to bolster efforts toward ending the Gaza conflict. This follows a recent deal announced by the Trump administration, which promptly faced opposition from Israel. The Abraham Accords, launched six years ago, had ushered in a new era of peace, partnership, and prosperity in the Middle East, a sentiment not universally shared.

Kushner, alongside board high representative Nickolay Mladenov and executive board member Tony Blair, will arrive in Israel on Sunday. They are set to travel to Cairo, where discussions among a Palestinian technocratic group, tasked with taking control of Gaza under a US-brokered ceasefire agreement, have been ongoing. The official, who wished to remain anonymous pending final trip details, emphasized that the trip aimed to demonstrate the determination of Trump and the Board of Peace to foster peace, prosperity, and sustainable security in a demilitarized Gaza.

However, Israel has vehemently rejected the deal, where Hamas agreed to disarm in exchange for Israel withdrawing its forces. This comes despite the fact that Hamas only ceded control of Gaza, not disarming completely. The deal was considered a potential turning point for the ongoing war in Gaza, but has since stalled on several fronts.
