HRCSL calls applications for 2026 Youth Camp

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has announced a call for applications to its 2026 Youth Camp, focusing on Human Rights and Social Responsibility. The residential program, set from October 26 to 31, will gather 55 young individuals, aged 18 to 29, from all 25 administrative regions of Sri Lanka. The objective is to cultivate young leaders capable of addressing modern human rights issues and contributing as engaged, responsible citizens.

The camp's curriculum encompasses interactive learning, leadership development, group discussions, simulations, practical exercises, community activity planning, and team-building activities. Key topics include human rights, integrity, accountability, equality, non-discrimination, diversity, democratic participation, and social responsibility.

Participants will also explore challenges faced by young people, such as drug use, corruption, cybercrime, misinformation, hate speech, violence, discrimination, environmental degradation, and mental health issues.

Eligible applicants must meet several criteria: they should be aged 18 to 29, proficient in Sinhala, Tamil, or English, show interest in human rights, leadership, inclusion, and diversity, and be prepared to actively engage in community-based human rights initiatives post-camp. They must also display responsibility, teamwork, and a connection to a youth group, organization, institution, or network that can aid in promoting human rights.

Selection will involve choosing two participants from each of the 25 districts, along with five additional individuals, including those with disabilities and members of other marginalized groups, to foster diversity and inclusion. The HRCSL will provide residential facilities, and eligible transportation expenses will be refunded according to the Commission's guidelines.

Participants must commit to attending the entire program to be eligible for transportation reimbursement.
