‘Firefighting is everyone’s responsibility’ – FFS boss Olumode

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has called on wealthy Nigerians, philanthropists, business leaders, and corporate organizations to contribute to the establishment of fire stations nationwide, emphasizing that fire safety should be a shared responsibility. During a one-day National Stakeholders’ Summit on Fire Safety in Abuja on Thursday, the Controller General of the Service, Adeyemi Samuel Olumode, highlighted the importance of strategically locating fire stations to bring emergency services closer to communities and reduce response times to fire incidents.

Olumode stated that wealthy individuals, philanthropists, businesses, and corporate organizations could make a significant impact by investing in fire stations, which would ultimately protect lives and property. He pointed out that fire stations in Offa, Oyo, Idanre, Bonny Island, and Kugbo serve as examples of how communities can take direct responsibility for their safety and that such support is an investment in saving lives and safeguarding property, rather than mere charity.

Olumode also noted that the summit marked a year since his appointment as Controller General on August 14, 2025, and used the occasion to review the Service's achievements over the past year.
