DAP perlu kekal dalam kerajaan agar agenda reformasi terlaksana, kata Syahredzan

DAP's Deputy Chairman and Syahredzan Johan has warned that the party's removal from the government would jeopardize the reformist agenda, in addition to hampering the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition's campaign promises. Speaking on Facebook, Syahredzan emphasized that the DAP's removal from the Cabinet would cripple the government's reformist foundations and fail to support the PH's manifesto implementation.

"The most crucial reason for DAP to remain in the government is to ensure the nation's administration doesn't stray from the reformist foundations," he stated. As the Member of Parliament for Bangi, Syahredzan added that reformism is not merely rhetoric or manifesto pledges for DAP, but rather the foundation of the party's struggle for decades as the opposition.

He mentioned several significant reforms already accomplished, such as the Parliament Services Act, the Audit Act amendment, the establishment of the Media Malaysia Council, and the Public Assistance and Defense Act. Syahredzan also highlighted legislative reforms at the parliamentary level, including the Premier Questioning Time, the expansion of parliamentary select committees' powers, and the debate space for major reports from the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) and the Auditor-General.

Additionally, several new legislative bills have been introduced this year, including bills on mandatory tenure for prime ministers, constitutional separation of the Attorney-General's role from the prosecutor, and the Freedom of Information Bill. Syahredzan stressed that DAP wishes to champion other reformist agendas, such as a balanced budget allocation to all Members of Parliament, a matter DAP has long advocated for.

"DAP needs to stay within the government administration to ensure these bills' success. If we are out, we will lose the political commitment needed to implement this reform," he added. On Sunday, over 4,000 DAP representatives will decide whether the party should stay or leave the government until the end of the parliamentary term.

As of now, Perak DAP has expressed support for remaining in the unity government to allow the coalition to fulfill its campaign promises.
