British rider Finlay Tarling dies after crashing at Volta a Portugal

The young British cyclist Finlay Tarling passed away after sustaining a fatal accident during the Volta a Portugal cycling race on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred during stage eight of the UCI 2.1 race, as Tarling rode from Megalaço to Fafe. His death was confirmed by both his team and the race organizers. Finlay, the younger sibling of Netcompany-Ineos rider Josh, was competing in his second season with the NSN Development team.

He had made a name for himself in the National U23 event in June, securing a podium finish. In a statement, the team announced their profound grief, describing Finlay as a beloved member of the team, as well as a son, brother, and cherished friend. The organizers of the race, scheduled to conclude on Sunday, immediately neutralized the remainder of the stage and canceled the scheduled podium ceremonies.
