Asyraf threatens to sue netizens over TH claims

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has threatened legal action against individuals who allegedly defamed him on social media regarding the Tabung Haji controversy. He has instructed his lawyer to serve letters of demand to several account holders, demanding a total of RM5 million in compensation for tarnishing his reputation.

Dusuki maintains that his motivation is not financial gain, but rather achieving truth and justice. The Mara chairman stated this on Facebook. Any potential earnings from his legal battle will be donated to underprivileged students through a Mara education fund.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji's financial management between 2014 and 2020 found that seven out of 14 investments resulted in total losses. The most significant loss was from a Saudi-based real estate company, Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Project Management Co Ltd. Despite Dusuki's claim that he had no involvement in TH's decisions during his tenure as deputy religious affairs minister from 2015 to 2018, a photograph from 2017 surfaced, showing him in a signing ceremony alongside then-TH chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and others.

The image, which circulated on Facebook, depicted a 10-year lease extension agreement between TH and Al-Rawda. Dusuki insists that there was a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.
