Asyraf threatens to sue netizens over TH claims

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has threatened to sue numerous social media users for allegedly defaming him in relation to the Tabung Haji controversy. He aims to secure a total compensation of RM5 million from the individuals responsible for spreading false information about him. In a Facebook post, Asyraf emphasized that his primary concern is not the monetary gain but seeking truth and justice.

He also stated that any funds obtained from his legal action will be donated to underprivileged students via a Mara education fund. The royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the Tabung Haji’s financial management between 2014 and 2020 revealed that seven out of the 14 investments made by the pilgrim fund incurred total losses. The most significant loss was attributed to TH’s investment in Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Project Management Co Ltd, a Saudi-based company.

Asyraf firmly denied any involvement in TH’s decisions during his tenure as deputy religious affairs minister from 2015 to 2018, despite appearing in a 2017 photograph with then-TH chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim. This incident followed the circulation of a recent Facebook post showing Asyraf alongside others who signed a 10-year lease extension agreement with Al-Rawda, which has been linked to the agency's most problematic investment.
