Ex-IGP Adamu Empowers 2,800 Farmers In Nasarawa

In Nasarawa State, no less than 2,800 farmers from the Western Senatorial Zone have received support from a program initiated by former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu. The empowerment initiative, which took place in Karu Local Government Area on Friday, included the distribution of fertilizers, modern farm implements, and compensation to participating farmers.

The Western Zone consists of five local government areas: Keffi, Karu, Kokona, Nasarawa, and Toto. Adamu, who convoked the IGP Group, emphasized that the purpose of the intervention was to complement government efforts in achieving food security and improving rural livelihoods. He further stated that the program aimed to modernize farming methods and introduce implements to increase food production.

Adamu highlighted that the Karu exercise, which covered the Western Zone, would be extended to Nasarawa North Senatorial District. The former IGP called on well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations to support farmers, stating that their contributions would help in increasing food supply in the state. Plans are underway to extend similar support to women in small-scale businesses and youths in the state.

Former IGP Adamu acknowledged that while government is doing its best to provide for the people of Nasarawa, there are limitations to what can be achieved. Therefore, private support is necessary. In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Nasarawa State All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ambassador Isaac Kugbu, expressed appreciation for Adamu's intervention, describing it as exemplary leadership and a timely move to boost food production.

Kugbu emphasized that "No farmer, no food, no nation" and thanked the former IGP for his consistent support for agriculture and food security. The chairman confirmed the presence of all five AFAN local government chairmen in the Western Zone, expressing gratitude for their support.
