Ashmit Patel says Murder’s success did little for his career: ‘Mallika Sherawat took the limelight’

Ashmit Patel's career did not see a significant boost from the success of the 2004 film Murder, despite the film being a major sensation. The movie, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat, gained popularity largely due to its music and the chemistry between the lead actors. While Sherawat and Hashmi thrived in the aftermath of Murder, Patel felt his career took a different trajectory.

He revealed during a podcast interview with Hindi Rush that he was dealing with personal heartbreak during the filming of Murder, which he said helped him process his emotions for the character. Patel noted that while Mallika Sherawat became a major beneficiary of the film's popularity, he received comparatively little recognition.

He also mentioned that the film's hit songs featured Emraan Hashmi and did not offer him the same level of visibility. Patel's performance was well-received critically, but he lost out on opportunities that other cast members received. Professionally, Patel faced challenges during the same period, including being dropped from two significant films without notice due to personal issues in his life.

He described this time as a "mixed bag," acknowledging the critical praise for his work while also expressing professional disappointment. Patel's last known film appearance was in the 2018 movie Nirdosh.
