Old-age security: Five-year transition period until the end of "retirement at 63"?

Berlin. In the debate on the "pension at 63", Annika Klose, the social policy spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group, has put forward a new proposal: she recommends a five-year transition period until the final abolition. The pension commission had recommended that the non-deductible pension after 45 years of contributions should be abolished "at the earliest possible date" while maintaining the constitutionally required protection of trust.

"In pension matters, this usually meant five years," Klose, who was herself a member of the commission as one of three members of the Bundestag, told the newspapers of the Funke media group. "A correspondingly long transition period would also be necessary here." Klose also called for already concluded partial retirement contracts to be taken into account, as these have terms of up to ten years. "Accordingly, a design with long transition periods is sensible and necessary."

Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Minister of Labour Bärbel Bas (SPD) had spoken in favour of completely implementing the commission's pension concept. Bas called it a "masterpiece". At the beginning of July, the coalition committee also decided to implement the plan "completely" by the end of this year.
