Afghan soil being used against Pakistan, Naqvi tells Norway FM as two discuss counterterrorism cooperation

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on Friday to discuss counterterrorism cooperation, focusing on the use of Afghan soil in terror attacks against Pakistan. Eide's visit was the first by a Norwegian foreign minister in a decade, marking a significant bilateral engagement. The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and address regional concerns.

They also agreed to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism, illegal immigration prevention, police training, and mutual legal assistance. During the meeting, Eide praised Pakistan's "constructive and active" stance in the US-Iran war. Naqvi highlighted Pakistan's 47% reduction in illegal immigration to Europe, crediting effective measures and a zero-tolerance policy.

He emphasized Pakistan's role as a barrier against terrorism, urging all nations to collaborate in eradicating this threat. Naqvi told Eide that Afghan soil continues to be exploited for terrorism in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for collective action to eliminate this menace. The Norwegian minister appreciated Pakistan's active role in the diaspora community and the contributions made by Pakistani immigrants across various sectors.

Talal Chaudhry, Minister of State, and other senior officials attended the meeting. On Thursday, Eide met with top civilian and military officials to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, climate resilience, maritime affairs, skilled labor, and security, while also exchanging views on regional developments.
