Abia did not ban tricycles, says commissioner

The Abia State Government has clarified that it has not banned tricycles, commonly referred to as keke, across the state. However, it has issued a warning that those operating outside the Nnenna-Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia will face consequences. Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu, made the clarification following a recent statement about keke operators and the numerous parks in Umuahia.

The restriction applies to tricycles used for long-distance passenger transportation to destinations like Owerri, Obowo, Mbaise, and Arochukwu. The government's action is aimed at ensuring passenger and operator safety, as tricycles are not designed for such travel and present safety risks. The government remains committed to maintaining safe, regulated, and efficient transportation in the state.
