24-Hour Economy must go beyond slogans – AGI demands concrete action

Seth Twum Akwaboah, the CEO of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), has called for the government to shift from slogans to concrete action in implementing Ghana's 24-Hour Economy policy. He emphasized that the success of the policy should be measured by the practical steps taken, rather than the name itself. Akwaboah urged government to focus on how policies are developed and implemented, including their consultative nature and key activities to change the status quo.

The 24-Hour Economy policy aims to expand economic activity beyond traditional working hours and create more opportunities for businesses and workers. Despite initial confusion surrounding the policy, Akwaboah noted that consultations with government have clarified the initiative. He cautioned against expecting overnight economic transformation and likened the situation to the previous government's One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative.

Akwaboah believes the focus should now be on identifying specific interventions required to make the 24-hour economy a reality, such as launching a blueprint for the policy that contains ideas capable of transforming economic activity if implemented properly. He reaffirmed the AGI's support for the policy and its commitment to working with government on its implementation.
