‘You are lucky you didn’t end up as corpses’: Judge’s grim warning to couple who used a Melaka mosque mortuary for their affair

Melaka Syariah High Court has handed a hefty fine to a former mosque caretaker and a cleaner who used a mortuary room for their illicit affair. Judge Mawardi Che Man warned them, "You are lucky you didn't end up as corpses." The former caretaker, Mohd Rafi Abu Samah, 48, and the cleaner, Norhaslinda Hashim, 51, pleaded guilty to their charges and were each fined RM5,000 or faced up to 18 months in jail.

The incident occurred between January and April, with the prosecution only charging them once based on the available evidence. The court heard that the pair committed the act in a room designated for the final cleansing of the deceased before burial. Judge Mawardi emphasized that although the mortuary room was separate from the main prayer hall, it was still within the sacred mosque grounds.
