‘You are lucky you didn’t end up as corpses’: Judge’s grim warning to couple who used a Melaka mosque mortuary for their affair

In Melaka, a former mosque caretaker and cleaner turned a mortuary room into a secret affair location. The Melaka Syariah High Court fined both individuals RM5,000 each, or 18 months in jail, after they pleaded guilty to committing illicit sex inside the mortuary. Judge Mawardi Che Man warned them, "You are lucky you did not end up as corpses while committing the act.

Otherwise, you could have been washed there straight away." The pair, Mohd Rafi Abu Samah and Norhaslinda Hashim, admitted to their respective charges. They engaged in the act multiple times between January and April, with the prosecution only bringing a single charge against each due to available evidence. The offense occurred between 8am and noon on an unspecified date in April, inside a room designated for the final cleansing of the deceased before burial.

The court emphasized that while the mortuary room was separate from the main prayer hall, it remained within the sacred mosque grounds.
