UAE condemns attack on two Adnoc ships in Strait of Hormuz

In a recent incident, two vessels belonging to Adnoc were targeted by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the company's announcement on Friday. No casualties were reported in the attack, which transpired the previous night. The company emphasized the significance of safeguarding the well-being of seafarers and upholding freedom of navigation and maritime security, as reported by the state news agency Wam.

The UAE Foreign Ministry vehemently condemned the attack, asserting that it contravened UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which guarantees freedom of navigation and denounces aggression against commercial ships. The ministry stressed that targeting commercial shipping and utilizing the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic coercion or blackmail constitutes piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, posing a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.

The UAE urged Iran to cease these aggressive actions, stressing the importance of Iran's full commitment to halting all hostile acts. It called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in a completely and unconditionally manner to achieve regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade. As of the time of writing, Iran had not assumed responsibility for the attack.

The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed since the onset of the US-Iran war in February. Bahrain also denounced the attack, labeling it a violation of international law and expressing full solidarity with the UAE, while affirming its complete support for the measures taken to ensure its security and stability. Iran was also held accountable for an attack on an Adnoc tanker on Saturday.
