UAE condemns attack on two Adnoc ships in Strait of Hormuz

Two vessels owned by Adnoc were targeted by Iran while navigating the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the company on Friday morning. No casualties were reported, and the incident has been brought under control. Adnoc emphasized the significance of safeguarding seafarers and maintaining freedom of navigation and maritime security.

The UAE's Foreign Ministry vehemently condemned the attack, asserting that it contravened UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which advocates for freedom of navigation and denounces aggression towards commercial vessels. The ministry highlighted that targeting commercial shipping and employing the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic coercion or blackmail constitutes piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It also warned that such actions pose a direct threat to regional stability, its people, and global energy security. The UAE stressed the urgent need for Iran to cease these aggressive attacks, commit fully to halting all hostile acts, and restore complete and unconditional access to the Strait, which would promote regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.

As of the latest update, Iran has not acknowledged responsibility for the attack. The Strait of Hormuz has effectively been closed since the onset of the US-Iran war in February. Bahrain also denounced the attack, categorizing it as a violation of international law and expressing full solidarity with the UAE, backing all measures taken to protect its security and stability. Iran was also held accountable for an attack on an Adnoc tanker last Saturday.
