Tabung Haji RCI report should guide reforms, says PM political secretary

KUALA LUMPUR: The political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Azman Abidin, emphasized that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) should not reignite political disputes, but rather serve as a guide for reforming the institution. He stressed that the well-being of approximately 10 million depositors should be the top priority over political considerations of any party.

Azman stated that the RCI report should be seen as a valuable lesson to strengthen the institution, rather than a source of old political conflicts. He assured that any necessary enforcement would strictly adhere to the law and rely on solid evidence, while ensuring the institution remains trusted for future generations. During Tuesday's special parliamentary session on the RCI report, MPs debated the issue, allowing the public to understand the events at TH.

Azman expressed disappointment in the opposition's walkout, as they should have been advocating for depositors' and Muslims' rights in the country. The RCI report, which covered TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020, revealed 25 recommendations for improvement and led to a special parliamentary session for lawmakers to present, debate, and discuss the report.
