Rozetka Co-Owner Estimates Destroyed Warehouse Losses at $70M, Contents Not Included

A Ukrainian e-commerce giant, Rozetka, suffered an estimated $70 million in losses when a warehouse it owned was destroyed by Russian missiles on August 5, according to co-owner Iryna Chechotkina. The warehouse complex in Brovary had been in operation since early 2017 and was handling over 100,000 orders per day before being rendered unusable by the attack.

The facility, which was struck during a massive Russian assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region, was hit by three ballistic missiles. Chechotkina revealed on Facebook that the damage extended beyond the warehouse, with the total destruction of the facility amounting to billions of hryvnias. She expressed concern that insurance companies are ill-equipped to handle losses of this scale, urging the government to grant tax deferrals to affected businesses to aid in their recovery.

Following the incident, which left more than 1,000 employees jobless, Rozetka is streamlining its workforce and hastening a shift in its business model, with a focus on expanding its marketplace platform. Established in 2005, Rozetka is Ukraine's leading online retailer and marketplace, comparable to Amazon and a significant contributor to the nation's economy and supply chains.
