Seoul City Hall exhibition explores fleeting memory of urban landscapes

In Seoul, an innovative art exhibition, "Traces of Seoul," is currently on display at the Sky Plaza Gallery, situated on the eighth floor of Seoul City Hall. The gallery, which offers a yearly artist selection program since 2014, provides free access to contemporary visual arts to both locals and tourists. The exhibition, a result of one of the three winning proposals among 130 submissions for the 2026 Sky Plaza Gallery schedule, focuses on the subtle traces and fleeting memories left behind by residents in the city's rapidly changing urban landscape.

Chang Eun-woo, the artist behind the exhibition, has chosen to highlight Seoul's narrow alleys, neighborhood streets, and everyday urban scenes. These often overlooked spaces, which embody a quiet familiarity, are gradually fading away due to modern redevelopment. Chang employs a unique artistic technique of cutting and layering to capture this transience, offering viewers a gentle insight into the ephemeral nature of the city's evolving urban landscape.
