Scoop: Trump team tells GOP to lean in on health care

Last week, President Trump's top political operatives advised Senate Republicans to emphasize health care in their midterm campaign messaging. This comes as the MAGA base has shown particular interest in the voter-ID and proof-of-citizenship SAVE Act. However, polling from Trump's pollster suggests that targeting health insurance companies would yield better results for Republican candidates.

When advocating for increased transparency around insurers' profits, claim denials, and patient care wait times, Republicans enjoy a 46-point advantage over Democrats who oppose such measures. Additionally, banning congressional stock trading and cracking down on fraud also show potential for Republican success, with 44- and 38-point advantages respectively.

Despite this, the SAVE Act presents fewer opportunities, with only a 14-point advantage for Republicans over Democrats. Health care has historically been a weakness for Republicans, as evidenced by the unpopular decision to let enhanced Obamacare tax credits expire last year. Sources familiar with the presentation stated that Republican candidates are expected to benefit from increased support, including funding from MAGA Inc. and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which has $128 million in cash on hand.

The Democratic National Committee, in comparison, has only $16 million in cash and $18 million in debt.
