Safety issues at football stadium prompts match relocation

An upcoming national football tournament match has been relocated from the 36-year-old Pohang Steel Yard stadium in Pohang due to safety concerns, according to officials on Thursday. The K League 1 club, Pohang Steelers, revealed that their home stadium would undergo comprehensive safety inspections in the coming days, preventing it from hosting the round of 16 match against Jinju Citizen FC on the following Wednesday.

The decision to move the match was prompted by an incident during a previous K League 1 match at the stadium last Saturday, where a piece of concrete fell from the ceiling, injuring a fan. The club stated that the fan sustained a minor hand injury and opted to watch the remainder of the game from another section of the stadium rather than seeking a medical examination at a local hospital.

Pohang Steelers expressed their regret for the inconvenience and anxiety caused by the incident, assuring fans that they would implement all necessary measures following the safety inspections and continue enhancing their stadium management. The club emphasized that the new venue would be determined following the completion of the inspections.
