RTD wants tighter registration for RXZ Members gatherings

The Road Transport Department (RTD) in Malaysia is seeking a more comprehensive registration process for RXZ Members gatherings, as the current system is deemed insufficient. RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli explained that the existing registration mostly involved participants signing up for items like goodies and T-shirts, rather than providing essential details.

Organisers have registration requirements, but they lack comprehensive information collection. Aedy emphasized that stricter registration, including drivers' licence and road tax details, is necessary to ensure organisers can hold participants accountable for their actions at future events. Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan also attended the discussion with media representatives.

RTD has proposed that future registration require participants to provide relevant information, including their driving licences and road tax information. The registration process should be more thorough, with participants registering and providing necessary details such as their driving licences and road tax. Aedy highlighted that this is important for organisers to be responsible for the participants attending future programmes.

The engagement session between RTD and RXZ Members organisers, led by Kifli, discussed the proposed improvements. Both parties agreed to implement the recommendations. Aedy rejected suggestions that RTD's latest proposals were too late, stating that organisers had previously taken steps to ensure participants complied with traffic regulations.

However, he acknowledged that the actions of a few participants not following the rules had negatively impacted the programme's image. RTD could withdraw its support for future RXZ Members events if serious road safety issues persist, particularly in cases involving fatalities. RTD will assess the actions taken by both organisers and participants before determining its position on future events.
