PSG continue European dominance by beating Villa to win Uefa Super Cup

PSG secured back-to-back UEFA Super Cup titles with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg. Desire Doue scored the decisive goal in the 62nd minute after a VAR offside check, securing the win for the Champions League holders. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG with a well-placed 20th-minute goal, while 17-year-old Brian Madjo equalized for Villa in the 45th minute.

The young striker, who had missed two previous chances, became the youngest scorer in Super Cup history. Madjo, an England Under-17 international, had been banned by FIFA from playing for Villa for eight months, but his goal proved decisive. Villa had appealed the ban through the Court of Arbitration for Sport, allowing him to compete in competitive matches.

Despite Villa's efforts, they could not overcome PSG and retain the trophy they won last year by defeating Tottenham on penalties. Villa, playing the Super Cup after winning the Europa League in May, had opportunities but were unable to score. Unai Emery, the Villa manager, has now lost all four finals in the competition, following previous losses with Sevilla and Villarreal.

Additionally, Somali official Omar Artan made history as the first non-European referee to officiate the match, despite being denied entry to the United States for the 2022 World Cup.
